Little Man

I took this picture from the top of a chair... A mouse ran out from underneath the fridge, and my natural instinct was to jump up and scream. Jayden ran in to see what was wrong with Mommy, saw the mouse, grabbed the broom, and well...you can see. He chased the mouse back under the fridge, and let it know what he was thinking in the process!! I was way embarrassed and way proud at the same time that my 20 month old son was willing to jump in and save his mommy from the big, bad mouse.

Billiruben Baby

Karah had a high billiruben count on Sunday, so it was under the lights for her. Luckily, things have changed since Jayden was born, and they delivered a billi-bed to the house. Poor baby had to be under the lights until Wednesday, but we are glad that we have the kind of technology to help with jaundice. Also, you'll notice that she's a little tanner than the rest of us!! ;)

Family of Four

We are now a family of four! Jayden just loves his new little sister. He loves to show us where her eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands, and feet are. He loves to give her kisses...after she had her foot poked for her billiruben count, he would kiss her owies to make them feel better. He loves to hold her, and sing her songs when she is crying. There are times when Dan or Mom takes her into the other room and he comes to me and asks: "Where baby?" He has his moments of jealousy every once and a while, but for the most part, he just adores her. He will bring her the pacifier, help me change her diapers, and make sure her hairbow is on. Such a good big brother!!

Karah Joanne Richardson

Here she is!! Karah was born on August 22, 2007 in West Jordan, Ut. She was 6 lbs, 7 oz, and 18 in. long. She did not waste any time getting here. Dr. Oneida said that if she had not been posterior, Dan probably would have had to deliver her. She is such a little sweetheart. Her favorite things to do are eat, sleep, and poop. She has some hilarious facial expressions...especially when she thinks that her mommy is taking too long "cooking lunch". You can't really tell in this picture, but she does have quite a bit of dark hair in the back. She kind of has a "Grandpa Randy" hairdo going on here...lol. More pics to come.

Helping Daddy Change a Tire

On our way from visiting Kelsi one night, we heard a strange noise coming from the back of our car. Dan Pulled over, but in the dark, he didn't notice anything. So, on we went. The next morning, however, there was a bolt of some sort in the tire, and it was FLAT. Out came Dan and his little "helper". Notice his little sash? He was playing balloon swords with the older boys earlier, and they had given him a little costume that he sported for a few days... Anyways, Daddy would get the covers off, turn around to grab the tool he needed, and then turn around to find the covers magically back on!! This game went on for a little while, until Jayden realized that the tool was much more fun than sticking the covers on. What Daddy says would have taken him 15 minutes without "help" took him closer to an hour. But, we really know that Jay sped things up for him because Daddy didn't want to lose any bolts or tools. ;)

Status of Kelsi...

For those of you who are unaware, I'm not being my usual blog-neglectant self... Last Wednesday, Dan's little sister, Kelsi, fell 20 feet from a tree. She hit her head and has suffered bleeding and swelling in her brain. Miraculously, there were no broken bones. She has been unconscious since the accident, and has been kept in a medically induced coma since Thursday night. It was a rough weekend for her, but she is a strong girl. They are weaning her off of the sedation and are hoping that she might wake up within the next few days, but they've told us to expect it to take longer. The nurses and doctors have been totally amazing, and the outpouring of love and service from family and friends is unbelievable. It has been a true testimony builder, and has healed many relationships thought to be irreparable. Heavenly Father's hand has been there since before it happened to prepare the way for many kinds of healing. We have another blog set up with updates on Kelsi's status. Workin on the house

Demolition of the house...

I realize that most of these pictures might have been seen before, but I'm going to put my explanation to it here... Yes, when we bought the house, we thought a little paint here, a little tile there, and some good elbow grease and cleaner would do the trick. We knew that there were things that were wants, and things that were needs. We'd made a list, budgeted things out, and then we got the keys to the house. That is when reality set in. Our first day, we discovered that the carpet was not salvageable. The previous owners had obviously invested in about 50 gallons of Febreeze when we came to look at the house. Also, after vacuuming the room for over an hour and emptying it 8 times, it became apparent that there was nothing we could do. Dan had to leave after 10 minutes because the pet hair was so thick in the carpet it was giving his allergies a hard time. So, we tore out the carpet and decided we could live with the counters the way they were for a while. That is, until we discovered that the leak under the sink had rotted out the bottoms of the cabinets. They had done a pretty good job covering that up. So, we tore out the cabinets. Scott Warner is in the kitchen remodeling business, so he came out and figured out what he could do for us. After tearing out the cabinets, we found that there was mold in the sheet rock...that went all the way down into the downstairs bathroom. So, bye-bye sheet rock in the kitchen and bathroom. See a pattern here? Long story short, we've replaced the windows, (thanks, G & G), we're re-carpeting the whole house, re-tiling the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry rooms, putting sheet rock up in the kitchen and bathroom, filling holes throughout the whole house (Oh, yeah....pictures were hung up over holes in the walls...and they glued stuff to the walls that made holes when we tried to take them down), re-painting the whole house, and I'm not even going to go into the condition of the yard...(they stopped caring when they accepted our offer and used it as a dumpster). So, as you can see, our little project has become a HUGE deal, and we are so very grateful for those who have offered their help in getting this place livable again. We had several people show up to help us tear out the crap, and help us rebuild. So far, we've only had to hire out for one thing, and that is the carpet! We are so very blessed with the different resources of our family, and we want to thank everyone who has been a part in helping us get into our house. More pictures will come!!

Petting Zoo

Don't worry, those two fingers were in his mouth before we went in, and didn't come out until after we left. This was taken at Disneyland, but we just got a few pictures from a camera we didn't know had any on it... Jay LOVES animals!! Doggies, duckies, goats, fishies, birdies, kitties...you name it. Yesterday, we went over to Tom's house for a Sunday afternoon BBQ. He had the cutest little dog! Jayden had so much fun running after him, "WOOF-WOOF"-ing the whole time. He also learned that if he threw something, the dog would retrieve it. Oh, what fun!! He has gotten really good at doing animal sounds...He doesn't like to say the words unless we are playing. The words he knows are "Arf", "Moo", "Kak" (quack), and "Teet" (tweet). When he is around the animal, he actually tries to mimmick the sound. It is hilarious. There are times when Dan and I take Jay to Petco as a treat to let him spend time with more animals. I can just picture all of the stray cats and dogs finding sanctuary at our house in the future....Wonder why...

Jayden's Reign of Terror

Daddy decided that since he started a new job today (working for Jon until he gets something else...btw, he has an interview on Tuesday...!!) he was going to be Mr. Mom when he got home later than usual. Jayden, my little angel, decided to give Daddy a run for his money... First, at dinner, he made a much bigger mess than usual. Rice and green beans EVERYWHERE. So, after Jayden decided he was done, Daddy got the bath ready. He decided to let me read Harry Potter 5 to him while he picked up some and watched Jay in the tub. 5 mins later, I hear cries of disgust coming from Dan. Our son had gone #2 in the tub, and was playing with it... So, Daddy cleaned up the boy, and the tub, and while his back was turned getting a clean diaper, he heard mischeivious laughs and a tinkling sound. Moaning on the inside, he turned to find Jay triumphantly relieving himself on a pile of papers....including his commencement program and other momentos of BYU-I we had been going through earlier. The diaper was slapped on quickly, and since some of the carpet had gotten hit, he started in on cleaning the carpet. During the drama, Daddy had forgotten to shut the bedroom door, so the little imp dashed out of the room as fast as his little legs could take him. Dan jumped up after him, but was too late. In the SECONDS Jay had in a head start, he had found Uncle Jimmy's chocolate stash and bathed in it. Daddy cleaned him up, made sure the door was shut, and tried to catch his breath. This had all taken place in less than 20 minutes. The rest of the night consisted of Jay climbing up the bookshelf, getting stuck, and screaming for Daddy to get him down. Not me, but Daddy. He did eventually settle down and have good Story Time right before bedtime. I appreciate times like these...they try your patience to the very limit, but you are rewarded with some of the sweetest times ever. I'm glad that Dan was able to experience that, and I know he is, too.

Line cutter...

Sometimes the line was a little too long for Jayden's taste...that is when he discovered he could fit through the bars...kind of. We had to have help from a worker one time to get this head out from between the bars. I think that picture was on Mike and Adrienne's camera... Anyways, once Jay found out that he could fit through most of the bars, he had a blast trying to make his way up to the front of the line. He just couldn't understand why we had to stay so far away from the ride and wait!! Towards the end of the week, he gave up on line cutting and just played.

To Infinity...and BEYOND!!

For those of you who have not heard, Jayden LOVES Buzz Lightyear. It all started on the ride. He was a little afraid at first, because he'd never been on a ride before, but before we knew it he was yelling "BUUUUH!!!!" when he saw that we were getting near Tomorrowland. He and I rode that ride over, and over, and OVER. It got to the point where Jay would sit there with his gun in both hands, screaming at the Evil Emperor Zurg and his alien slime, that is, until he found the joystick....then it became Buzz Lightyear meets Madhatter's Tea Party. His high score was 3000. By himself. No kidding. Mommy's high score was 984,600. Like I said...we rode that ride a LOT. We found out that Buzz would be meeting people in Tomorrowland on our last day there. We were so excited!! We got Jay ready in his fleece sweater that Uncle Matt and Aunt Krissa got him for Christmas...it has Buzz colors on it, and stood in line. Jay didn't know what was going on. I wanted to get a video of him walking up to Buzz, hypnotized, but he didn't notice Buzz standing there when I put him down!! He ran for the beginning of the ride line!! Buzz followed him a bit, Jay turned around, and then a lady ran in front of the camera, so I didn't get the priceless reaction. His jaw DROPPED, and he just stood there...dumbfounded. THE Buzz Lightyear of the Galactic Alliance was standing right in front of them. The rest of the time, he just stared at Buzz. No smiles, no laughs, no reaction at all. Just hypnotized. It was precious. After our turn, we went on the ride about 20 more times. The rest of the trip, we heard all about "Buuh."

Cheaters never prosper...

Daddy and Uncle Mike thought that they might be able to trick the sword and pull it out together...didn't work. See how they match? They thought it would be funny to have a day when Jay and Benji matched, and they matched! (They did not plan on packing the same shirt...that just happened!!)

Future King?

Well...I think that Jayden needs to grow a bit before he can try the sword again... Maybe in a few years it will recognize his potential. :) Unfortunately, we got the camera out after he made his "struggling to get the sword out" face. He was very upset when we told him that we needed to let other people try to pull the sword from the stone, but promises of Buzz Lightyear made him cheer right up!!

Disneyland!!!

Here we are!! The first picture is our first day. Look at that face!! We hadn't ridden anything, yet, just walked around, but he knew that something exciting was going on. During this trip,Jayden learned some new words: "Buzz" and "Disney" ("Buuuh" and "Diddy"), learned how to wait in line (kind of), how to shoot aliens, how to drive a car, and how to share his stoller. He met several new friends, including characters! He discovered the joy in rides, shows, and parades. Every night he went straight to bed because he was exhausted, and every morning he woke us bright and early, yelling out: "DIDDY!!! DIDDY!!" This was an amazing trip, and I hope that you enjoy the pictures to come.

Slacker...

Ok, ok, I know that I have been a slacker on the blog...We've been waiting on pictures from Disney Land, internet has been iffy, and I've just not thought about it. Right now, we are looking for the cord to download the picures off of the camera onto the computer. It sounds crazy, I know, but there are 12 people in this house right now, so it's not unusual for things to go missing. Even children... A few weeks ago, Dan and I were working in our room and Jay was downstairs playing with the boys. After a while, I heard silence. Randy was working in his office, Lecia and the girls were at Young Women's, and Andrew hadn't come home from work, yet. I went downstairs to check on the boys, and they were gone. G-O-N-E. All 4 little boys were nowhere to be found. Dan and I started to panic. We went next door to Grandma and Grandpa Samuelson's, and no, the boys weren't home. I was about to call the police when Randy suggested we check the park that is nearby. The kids know they aren't supposed to go there without an adult. We went to the park, and there were Jayden, Benji, Josh, Jimmy....and Andrew!!! I about killed him. He came home, didn't hear anyone, so he just took the boys to the park. Randy, Dan, and I were like, "DO YOU HONESTLY THINK WE WOULD HAVE LEFT THE KIDS THERE BY THEMSELVES???" Apparently, he did. Oh well. They were safe and sound, and now EVERYONE knows to ask permission to take Jayden from the house, even if it means calling Dan or I on the cell phone.
Jayden has perfected "Uh-oh." If something goes slightly wrong, Dan and I hear a little voice go "Uh-oh," over, and over, and over again until the problem is fixed. He is also a clean freak. He puts the clothes on the floor in the dirty clothes, he'll pick up his toys and put them in the toy box after Uncle Benji dumps them, he cleaned the bathtub with his washcloth last night....after he washed himself.... Seriously!! He took the rag from me, cleaned his face, behind his ears, his tummy, arms and legs, and between his toes. I was flabberghasted. He then started wiping down the sides of the tub!! I just cleaned it yesterday!!! He is such a funny kid!!! Well, I'm going to see if I can get any pictures up.

Free at last!!

Words cannot describe my feelings on the day that Dan graduated. Extreme happiness, anxiety, fear, joy, and even a little saddness somehow creeped in there. Our whole marriage so far had been "once Dan graduates, we can...", and now the day was here. No more classes that took up more time than a full-time job (ceramics 2 and 3), no more teachers who tell you on the first day of class that only 10% were going to pass (Organic Chemestry), no more assignments that had nothing, whatsoever, to do with the class (Art Seminar), no more winters that last 8 months of the year and get to -30, no more Rexburg cops, and sadly, no more friends. As much as I loved the idea of getting the heck out of Idaho, I had forgotten that leaving Idaho meant saying good-bye to the people who made life there more than tolerable. When Dan and I first got married, I hated it in Idaho. No hint of a joke there at all. Then, we met Rachel and Bryce. The next semester we had them, Preston and Jenny, and Aaron and Lindsay. And let's not forget Sam. The friendships Dan and I formed at BYU-I are some of the best that I've ever had, and I can honestly say that I wish our time there wasn't over so we could still get together and kick the boy's rears in Hand and Foot or Settler's of Catan instead of being across the country from each other living in the "real world".

Happy Easter (really late...)

I know these are really late!!! Most of the next few posts will probably be late... I am such a slacker when it comes to blogging. I try not to be, but things are pretty busy around here...12 people in one house. Craziness!! It has been a lot of fun, tho. Jayden loved Easter!! Especially the fact that no one, no matter how much we begged, kept their baskets off the floor. Jayden had his first taste of chocolate, jelly beans, peeps, and all other candy. Jelly beans are his favorite. In fact, one night we were getting ready for bed and he wanted NOTHING to do with me. I was a little hurt, so trying to mask it, I joked, "Hey, Jay, give Mommy a hug and I'll give you a jelly bean." Bad idea. He flew to me!! He gave me the biggest hug, slopped a huge kiss on my lips, then pointed to the Easter basket and said something must have meant jelly bean. I could not believe it. After he ate the jelly bean, he grabbed his toothbrush and let us finish putting him to bed. He is too smart sometimes.

"Brudders"

Jayden and Benjamin are the best of buds. In this picture, Benji decided that since Jay was driving, he needed some added protection... :) The other day, Lecia was having a Young Women's presidency meeting at her house. One of her counselors brought her little boy with her. This little boy was not exactly nice to Jayden. Anything Jay did, it was bad, and Jayden wasn't allowed to play with anything, even his own toys. So, after a few minutes of this, Benji stepped between this little boy and Jayden, with his hands on his hips and a very stern look on his face, and said: "You be nice to Jayden!! He's my brudder!!!" It took everything to not cry at that! After that, Benji was Jayden's protector from this little boy. Jayden is such a sweet little boy, and it was breaking my heart to see this little boy be mean to him. Benjamin stepping in like that to make sure that my little baby was treated with the sweetness and love that he deserves overwhelmed me with gratitude and love towards the friendship that they have. He may drive me nuts at some times, but it was so awesome to see him claim Jayden as his "brudder", not nephew.
